Become an Auditor - Eligible OHS Programs


To become an Energy Safety Canada External Auditor, applicants must hold a certificate, diploma, or degree in Occupational Health and Safety from one of the eligible programs.

To become an Energy Safety Canada External Auditor, the certificate, diploma, or degree program must meet the following requirements:

  • Be issued from an accredited institution
  • Consist of a minimum of 300 hours of classroom instruction and/or self-study
  • Cover the following ten applications-based core competencies:
    • Accident Theory
    •  Incident Investigation
    • Safety Techniques/Technology
    • Occupational (Industrial) Hygiene
    • Emergency Preparedness and Response
    • Risk Management
    • Ergonomics
    • OHS Law and Ethics
    • OHS Legislation/Regulation
    • Safety Management Systems

  • Proof of program completion
  • Complete list of program transcripts 
  • List of courses, including course description and number of credit hours
