H₂S Close Call

During meter calibrations a worker lifted an orifice carrier plate and contacted his self-contained breathing apparatus face piece. When contact was made, the regulator rotated, fell off and left the worker unprotected. Personal gas monitor readings indicated 17 ppm of H2S, but the well had the potential for 1,250 ppm H2S. Workers evacuated the area without harm, properly re-installed the regulator onto the mask and completed the meter calibrations.
