DACC IRP Volume #21 - Coiled Tubing Operations

Coiled Tubing Operations Industry Recommended Practice (IRP) ensures guidelines for coiled tubing are in place and readily available for all personnel involved in the development, planning, and completion of coiled tubing operations.
October 20, 2021

IRP 21 was opened for a full scope review in March 2018. Approval was provided by the DACC to remove drilling sections of the document during this review. The complete details of the revisions can be found in Appendix A of the document.

Coiled tubing operations are upstream petroleum industry operations using specialized equipment to carry out workovers and drilling on oil and gas wells. Coiled tubing applications fit into two general categories: fluid conveyance applications (pumping) such as fracturing/acidizing a formation, removing sand, scale or wax and mechanical applications such as cutting tubulars or setting a plug or packer.

The IRP includes information about coiled tubing operations including recommendations for:
  • Operations planning
  • Well Control Equipment
  • Accumulator Equipment
  • Coiled tubing specifications
  • Fluids and circulating systems
  • QA for Well pressure control equipment
  • Elastomeric seals
  • Well servicing operations
