COR Audit Options
January 5, 2024
Option 1: Action Plan Program
Action Plans can be used in lieu of a maintenance audit to maintain a company's COR for eligible companies.
Benefits: An Action Plan maps out a process for addressing gaps identified in previous audits and is an effective way for companies to maintain their COR while continuing to enhance their safety program.
Eligible employers must:
• Have a current regular COR.
• Be in a maintenance year and have completed one full, three-year COR audit cycle.
• The last certification audit must have achieved 85% or higher as an overall score or, if applicable, 80% or higher in the previous year's action plan.
• Apply and receive approval from Energy Safety Canada to use an Action Plan.
• The deadline to submit the Action Plan Application is January 31, 2024.
The resource centre provides guidance on the proposal and submission stages, as well as pre-recorded sessions on building and submitting your action plan.
NOTE: WorkSafeBC is not participating in the Action Plan Program. Employers holding a BC COR must submit a regular maintenance audit to maintain their BC COR.
Option 2: ISO and CSA Audits
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) audits can be used in lieu of conducting a certification and/or a maintenance audit for eligible companies.
Benefits: There is no need to submit a COR audit, which saves time and audit costs, reduces audit fatigue, and is an effective way for companies to continue enhancing their safety program.
Eligible employers must:
• Apply yearly and receive approval from ESC to use an ISO or CSA audit.
• Submit all required documents.
• The ISO or CSA audit must correlate with the COR certification and maintenance year.
For more information, review COR ISO/CSA audits.
NOTE: WorkSafeBC is not participating in the ISO/CSA Program. Employers obtaining or holding a BC COR must submit a regular certification or maintenance audit.
