Board Announcement: John Rhind takes on the role of Board of Directors Chair with the retirement of Greg Stringham
May 1, 2019
Energy Safety Canada today announced the retirement of Greg Stringham as Chair of the Board of Directors effective immediately. Mr. Stringham has served in the role since December 2016, working tirelessly to advance the successful transition of Enform and the Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) into a merged safety association with a focus on ensuring every worker gets home safely every day.
Energy Safety Canada is pleased to announce that John Rhind, a current member of the Board, will assume the role as Chair.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, management, employees, partners and stakeholders, I would like to express our sincere thanks to Greg for his contribution. We are indebted to Greg for his commitment and insightful leadership,” said Murray Elliott, President & CEO of Energy Safety Canada. “As Chair, Greg understood the importance of industry-wide standardization of safety and has helped Energy Safety Canada to successfully deploy strategies to navigate the industry’s challenging environment. We’ve appreciated his strong focus on governance.”
“At the same time, we are extremely pleased to welcome John back into a leadership role as we continue to work to accelerate improvement in safety performance. John is a strong safety advocate with tremendous leadership capabilities.”
John Rhind joined the Board of Directors in September 2018, having served previously as the initial CEO of Energy Safety Canada upon the merger. As part of a succession plan, Mr. Elliott later took on the combined role of President & CEO. Mr. Rhind was instrumental in developing the strategy and architecture for Energy Safety Canada and was key in overseeing the change process with the merger of Enform and OSSA.
Both Mr. Stringham and Mr. Rhind have solid track records in the industry. Mr. Stringham spent over 20 years serving as an executive of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. For more than 30 years, Mr. Rhind worked in various capacities in the oil and gas industry, primarily focused on oil sands operations. More recently, Mr. Rhind held the position of Vice President, Oil Sands with Shell Canada Ltd.
