Bear Awareness


Please note: required training for access to Suncor site and facilities is  Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness 

As someone who ventures into bear country, your awareness and understanding of bears are critical to carrying out your activities safely and efficiently. Good habits and a focused approach are essential to minimize the risks of hostile encounters. 

  • Upon successful completion of this course, a certificate that does not expire will be available to print. 
  • Participants are given five attempts at the final exam. It is strongly recommended to review all course material between attempts. If all attempts are unsuccessful, re-registration into the course is required, fees will apply.
  • Students have access to the course for 90 days from initial registration. If not completed within that time, registration fees will not be reimbursed. (See Cancellation Policy)

  • Differences between defensive and predatory attacks
  • Handling and/or preventing encounters and deterrents

Requirements:

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Students must be adequately prepared to participate in English for required course elements. Student Language Resources click here.
  • A currently supported version of your operating System for Windows or Apple
  • Stable internet connection with a supported web browser
  • Web Camera
  • Speakers / Microphone ((headset recommended)
  • Printer to print the certificate after successfully completing the course
