Vehicle Recovery | A Program Development Guideline

This guideline has been developed to provide light and medium duty vehicle operators in the energy industry with general information to avoid injury and damage while attempting to recover stuck vehicles. While acknowledging that every situation is unique and must be evaluated, this document gives an overview of commonly used equipment, and the general process to use, as well as identifies common hazards.

June 12, 2023

The information in this guideline is for the recovery of light to medium duty vehicles only. It does not cover towing or hauling vehicles for any duration. The recommendations in this document were created to prevent the most common mistakes in attempting vehicle recovery. Companies are free to adapt or further develop these recommendations as they wish in their own vehicle recovery policies and procedures.

This is the fourth edition of the guideline updated as of May 2023. If you have questions on the guideline please email Safety@energysafetycanada.com
