Enform celebrates 25th anniversary of safety training program H2S Alive®
June 24, 2013
Twenty-five years ago H2S Alive® became the standard for training in the oil and gas industry to inform and protect workers who may be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S) while on the job. One-quarter of a century later over a million employees across Canada and elsewhere, working in a variety of industries, have been trained and certified through Enform’s marquee safety training program. In conjunction with the 25th anniversary of H2S Alive® Enform will release in July, 2013 the 7th edition of the program with updated content and a fresh new look. "H2S Alive® is not only the industry standard in Canada, it is recognized around the world.
It is a critical program in helping to keep workers safe – the number one priority for all of us at Enform,” says Cameron MacGillivray, Enform’s President and Chief Executive Officer. "Through extensive collaboration with subject matter experts, instructors and government, we have updated the content of the program to keep pace with changing technologies in our industry. Not only will it provide new workers with the knowledge and confidence they need to work in industries that might expose them to H2S, but will expand the knowledge of seasoned employees.”
H2S Alive® was created to arm workers with the knowledge and tools to recognize and identify the properties of hydrogen sulphide, protect themselves from its effects and perform basic rescue techniques. "Last year alone 154,000 workers in Canada took this course. The content continues to focus on what a worker should do in the event of an emergency if exposure occurs, but it will also provide students additional information and tools to help them assess a situation early and be proactive in reducing and preventing any exposure,” says Jeff Safioles, Enform’s Manager of Health and Safety Training.
The origins of H2S Alive® training date back to the late 1970s when the program was developed and delivered by the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC). Enform has delivered H2S Alive® training since 1988.
